There are distinct types of carpet available today. Each is distinguished by its fibers, backings, and textures. There are five main types of carpet: level loop, patterned, textured, frieze, and plush. All if these can be woven from different fiber types, both synthetic and natural.
Nylon carpet fibers are the toughest on the market. It offers ongoing wear and tear-resistance yet is soft to the touch. Although it’s not naturally stain-resistant, nylon can be treated with a stain-protection coating.
Polyester carpet fibers are a more affordable, but slightly less durable alternative to nylon. Higher quality polyester can be tougher and softer than lower quality nylon. Polyester is also stain-resistant, apart from oil-based spills.
Olefin is a budget-friendly synthetic that’s highly fade-resistant. It doesn’t hold up well to wear but holds its gorgeous color over the years. We recommend olefin carpets for low-traffic areas with elevated levels of sunlight.
Triexta is a newer fiber that’s quickly emerging in popularity. It performs more like nylon in terms of durability and wear-resistance. It offers the same built-in stain-resistance as polyester.
Wool is the most common natural carpet fiber. It comes from a renewable resource, so it’s eco-friendly and sustainable. Wool is extra crush-resistant and able to maintain its plush texture. It’s also naturally anti-microbial and flame-resistant.
Stain-resistant carpeting looks like any other carpet. The differences are woven deeply into your rug’s construction. In addition to all your favorite weaves, patterns, and designs, stain-resistant carpets have specially coated fibers to prevent stains before they happen. Even stubborn stain-offenders like chocolate or cabernet are no match for these persistent performers. In most instances, spills can be removed with fresh water and a clean towel.
Stain-resistant carpeting can go in all the places where one would traditionally enjoy soft-surface flooring. Use it in your kids’ bedrooms, in the living room, on your stairs, and in the hallway. Many stain-resistant carpets are also exceptional in a commercial environment.
Carpet is perfect for adding warmth and comfort to any home. Most carpets can be installed in low-traffic areas like bedrooms, formal living spaces, and even dens. Certain carpets that have stain and wear-resistance can be installed in offices, playrooms, hallways, and even staircases.
